My seminar at PM Expo attracted a diverse crowd, with lots of interest. The audience of government and private sector representatives included both corporate facilities and commercial property management professionals.
Some of them are outsourced, but mostly they out-task services. While the session was billed as an Outsourcing seminar, the techiques can be applied to out tasked or subcontracted services just as easily as a full outsource provider.
None of them currently use a Performance Management framework to manage their current service providers, but a number want to introduce it to their suppliers. The fact that few organizations use a Performance Management Framework with their suppliers is unfortunate, but quite typical. It has traditionally been used for large scale outsourced services and hasn’t been widely adopted for out tasked or subconracted services.
For those of you who missed the session, I talked about how to develop effective measures, but more importantly, how to use Performance Management as a tool for managing successful performance rather than simply penalizing poor performance. After all, when your supplier fails, so do you.
